I used this mat during my math small group time. We had been learning about place value and my students were very familiar with building numbers using tens and ones. For this activity, I gave them 2 numbers to compare. They had to build the numbers first and then use a dry erase marker to fill in the information on the mat.
I have also put this out as a Math Center where my students would pull two number cards from a bag and compare them using the mat.
I hope you enjoy this freebie!

*This is a great partner activity. I use this in my classroom and my students love it. One partner is adding the math facts and the other partner is the timer (and helper). I have also included Answer keys mainly for the partner who is keeping time (just in case help is needed).
The addition facts start out easier in Set 1 and gradually gets more difficult as you get to Set 3.
The reader will roll a die and whatever number is up determines the column of math facts. They might start off a little slower at first, but it will help with fluency and faster recognition.
*I make several copies of each set. I put on construction paper and then laminate. I keep these in my Math Tub and students can work on this when they finish their work early or during center time.

Have fun incorporating this puzzle of a familiar "Friendly Forest Creature" in March as your class gears up for reading & rhyming fun or in April as you celebrate Earth Day!
Pattern blocks are excellent manipulatives for introducing kids to geometry and shapes as well as strengthening their spatial reasoning skills. Just grab a bunch of pattern blocks & try to cover the larger puzzle shape using the blocks. How many blocks did you use? Can you cover the puzzle using less blocks? More?
In addition to pattern block manipulatives, kids can also use pattern block stickers, cut outs or stencils to complete them. Embedded within each puzzle page is a recording and response box that can be used for assessment.
Perfect for whole class lessons, math centers, independent work, partner work, homework, or as take-home activities.
Color and B&W versions of the puzzle are included. Also included is an “answer key” for the puzzle, which shows “guiding lines” of where the pattern blocks will fit.
Laminating or Sheet Protectors are recommended for the color version.
