Fraction Family Flip book template pages
Fraction Flip Books that highlight fact families and equivalencies instead of order.Fourth and Fifth grade teachers…. Stop making fraction books that put unit fractions in descending or ascending order. Instead, group those fractions in to families. Deeper learning and understanding occurs.
Folding paper strips provides for deeper understanding than when the teacher provides a strip already labeled. They see the connection between the fraction family unit fractions when they fold and label themselves.
I have provided the templates you can use to copy the strips on colored copy paper.
10 strips per page. Unit fractions 1/2, 1/3, 1/5, and 1/12 provided.
You fold to create the other fractions in the family.

I have various flip books available in my classroom, but only after I’ve taught the concept and we have practiced it a number of times. The complexity of some skills can be quite challenging for many students. Being able to remember all the steps can become overwhelming. A flip-book can help walk these children through the process. In addition, I have found flip-books can be helpful when sending homework home. Including a flip book can make for very happy parents!
