Base 10 Common Core Math Activity
This is a math activity that I created to use with my kindergarten kiddos that helps reach many of the common core standards:
Base 10 - composing and decomposing number
Counting and Cardinality - writing numbers 1 - 20, recognizing numbers 1-20, counting to answer "how many"
I have used this activity as a guided lesson in small groups at first, then I also used it as a math center for students to do independently or with a partner. Both ways have been very successful.
I have given 3 Kindergarten common core standards that are used in this lesson, but this can also be used for 1st grade math standards as well.

Skittles Fraction Challenge Grades 4-5
Use this “Freebie” as a fun way to review some key fraction concepts including fraction of a set and comparing fractional amounts--key elements in the Common Core. Students may wish to model some of the answers using manipulatives. Each child will either need a snack sized bag of candies or you could fill a small zipper plastic bag with a small amount. NOTE: My students were fooled by the “What fraction of your Skittles are brown?” I wouldn’t give the answer to them—just asked them how many brown ones there are—they got it! There is also a “tie” on page 2 to watch for. This could be done as a whole class activity or as a math center.
I hope you have fun--it is definitely a step "up" from simply counting candies and finding fractional parts. ENJOY!
