Math Talk Cards

These cards are a great way to guide and support students as they begin engaging in math talk activities (also called number talk). Each card has a sentence stem to get kids started talking.

Simply print and cut the cards. Punch a hole and put the sets together with a ring clip.

Students can use the sentence starters to engage in small-group or partner discussions. My students have become better able to vocalize their math thinking by using these cards.

The cards promote higher order thinking skills and challenge students to...
-look for multiple solutions
-provide support and justification for their solutions
-analyze their own thinking and the thinking of others.
