# MATRICES - Solving Systems Using Matrices (Algebra 2)

This sample lesson is the 4th lesson of my soon-to-be-completed Matrices Unit (Unit 3B) for Algebra 2. The TUTORIAL VIDEO to accompany the lesson can be found on my YouTube Channel - Mandys Math World under the Algebra 2 Playlists section.

This lesson introduces the matrix equation and encourages students to solve a 2-variable matrix equation by hand. The 3-variable matrix incorporates use of the graphing calculator, and the online tutorial video includes the calculator process.

Supplement this unit with these helpful TI-84 Matrices Calculator Guides (another FREEBIE) for students to reference.

At the current time, I do not have Unit 3A Solving Systems of Equations for Algebra 2 (expected to be completed summer of 2021); however, my Algebra 1 Systems of Equations and Inequalities Unit is great to use in the on-level Algebra 2 classroom! I find students often need to go over all methods to solve again!

# Math Attitude and Interest Survey for Elementary Students (Grades 2-5)

I use this survey at the start of the school year to discover my students attitudes about math. The language is appropriate for the early to late elementary student. They reflect on their feelings about math by choosing to agree or disagree with a little over a dozen statements. This gives me a quick snapshot early on to know how to reach those students who may have a negative attitude about math.

I also give this survey at the end of the year so that they can see how much theyve grown. I keep the original survey so that they can compare at the end of the year. The students always find something interesting!

# Rounding

Subitizing is the perfect way to help students build number sense and see numbers in different ways! Both activities included would be great as centers or in small groups.

Domino Draw - Students will draw a domino card and cover that number with their counter. 2 versions are included - 0-6 and 0-10 for differentiation.

# STEM Design Cycle ~ FREE Graphic Organizer

Let me start by saying that we use the design cycle on a daily basis in all content areas. I make the graphic organizer poster-sized and it hangs up in our classroom all of the time. We use post-it notes to show our thinking and where we are in the cycle at any given moment!

Students also have their own copies of the design cycle organizer to use during our STEM challenges and other STEM activities. Learning how to use the design cycle is a process for the students, let them find their way through it over the course of the year!

# Picture Pie: A Fraction Craftivity

This packet includes printables to create pictures using fractions of a circle. I made it as an extension of my 250+ page Fraction Unit Bundle. Please check out that resource for more great hands-on manipulatives, centers, games, printables, resources and more:

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FRACTIONS-Bundle-Common-Core-3NF1-3NF2-3NF3-4NF1-

It would be best to explore Ed Emberly’s book, “Picture Pie” with your students, but it is not necessary. Simply have them use the pieces to create images. I used this activity while we were studying fractions. After creating their pictures they added up the pieces and recorded the total amount as a mixed fraction. It really helped them to understand the concepts in a fun and creative way.
